American retired paramedic Bill Tortorella shares how he died on the job and met his three guardian angels. In 1994, during a major business exhibition in Tucson [Arizona, US], Bill became gravely ill, suffering from a killer virus or bacterial infection that was spreading rapidly. After being briefly treated at a hospital for swelling and low oxygen levels, Bill returned to his hotel room. That night, Bill heard himself take his last breath. He left his body through a beautiful fluorescent glowing mist and looked down to see his now lifeless physical form. A brilliant beam of Light then came from behind, drawing him into a magnificent tunnel. Throughout the journey, he was enveloped in an overwhelming sense of incredible love, moving at what seemed like the speed of light. Upon arrival at his destination, Bill distinctly remembered saying, “I’m home. I’m finally home.”
A soft voice welcomed him, saying, “Yes, Bill, you’re home in the Light of God.” The voice introduced herself as Antonia, one of his guardian angels. Bill was then greeted by numerous spirits— family and friends— whom he recognized. Communication was entirely through telepathy, as all beings there existed as beams of light. Bill was soon greeted by the voice of his older brother, Peter, who had passed away from liver cancer and was now Bill’s second guardian. He called Bill by his childhood name, “Billy,” and embraced him in a joyous fusion of spirit. Peter guided Bill to a life review. Bill was shown every good and every wrong action of his life. Crucially, he was made to feel the exact pain and hurt he had inflicted upon others. “I didn’t know the hurt I caused some people. But you get to feel that pain. You get to feel that hurt that you put onto others. You become the physical pain. And I was physically crying in my spirit. But no body— but it’s like I felt the tears. It mounted, it mounted, it mounted so bad, I said, “I can’t take it anymore. Please forgive me. I’m sorry, I’m sorry!” And all of a sudden, a white Light came in and said, “Now we’ll show you the good side.” Thank God I did a lot of good in my life, especially with that job. Years as a paramedic, doing all that trying to save people’s lives and bring them back, and help them in every possible way I could. That’s when I understood what we’re here for. I understood that we’re here for service— to help one another. We’re all connected.”
Peter then introduced Bill to his third guardian, Orin, a man of great age and wisdom who was, in fact, the voice of intuition that had guided Bill throughout his life. Bill’s three guardians angels each had a role: Antonia was responsible for guiding him both in and out of the Light; Peter was his constant helper when he called on God; and Orin was his lifelong intuitive guide, keeping him from trouble. Antonia instructed Bill to look at himself, and he had transformed from a mist into a magnificent beam of light, just like the other spirits. The three guardians then led Bill to a final level, where he stood before a panel of magnificent angels. He was bombarded with wisdom and knowledge. Angels showed him the Universe and the creation of combustion nebulas, making him understand that all beings come from stardust. Another angel presented lines of crystal numbers (1, 3, 6, 8, 9) that were explained as fundamental to earthly phenomena like tides and seasons. Despite his pleading, a final angel stated unequivocally, “You must return.”
Bill was pulled back through a vortex, returning to his body faster and faster. He was zapped in his body and immediately felt intense physical pain. For about 10 minutes, he could not move his arms or legs until tingles returned, allowing him to call for help. Fearing others would think him insane, Bill initially kept the experience secret. After he recovered and returned home, Bill found the courage to tell his doctor. To his surprise, the doctor gave him books on near-death experiences, and said: “A lot of us get to find God in our lifetime. Bill, you were lucky enough to meet Him.” Bill now affirms, “I have no fear whatsoever in dying after my near- death experience. I welcome it someday. That’s my home. I’m going home. I know where I live, I know where I’m going back to. I know that this is just a temporary thing. But this is where we learn. You see, that’s the important part as well. We learn. We learn how to feel here. Our purpose is love. When we’re babies, we are love. We’re still contacted by the other side. We have to be able to learn how to feel that love again.” (Coming Home)
