American former law enforcement officer LaMar Dixon shares his near-death experience where he woke up in a world more real than this one.
LaMar grew up in a semi-religious home, attending church sporadically. Baptized as a child, he found religion confusing, seeing church mainly as dressing up and communion. As a teen, he wavered between spirituality and atheism, believing in being a good person more than doctrine. His near-death experience happened in his sleep after an exhausting day, caused by untreated sleep apnea.
Abruptly awakened with “spiritual eyes,” LaMar instantly knew he had died, thinking, “Oh no, I’m dead.” He saw Earth faint in the distance, surrounded by galaxies and stars so captivating that thoughts of family and his twin brother faded into distant memory.
Overwhelmed by the cosmos, LaMar received “downloads” of knowledge and underwent a self-directed life review. He judged himself harshly, debating with his higher Self over broken promises and missed opportunities. He realized a “higher us” within holds us accountable, and he regretted not treating people better. He sensed all human consciousness as one ocean, each soul a drop. Separated, he felt isolated, while reintegration dissolves earthly divisions.
Then a “blanket of love” covered him, like a mother, wordlessly assuring his perspective was a lesson, not a burden, and that he was deeply loved. Comforted, LaMar perceived himself as a ball of consciousness with 360-degree sight. Looking down, he saw no body, only a clear tunnel filled with vapor across the Universe. Simply by thinking of it, he was inside, propelled leftward past stars and galaxies while feeling bliss, receiving downloads about life’s purpose that were later removed so his Earth lessons remained intact.
LaMar approached a vast, pulsating, globular structure radiating unseen, living colors— his soul’s “home.” As he began merging, his energy dissolving into particles, a great Force stopped him, saying: “If you go beyond this point, I can’t bring you back. It’s not your time.” LaMar protested, feeling it was unfair, though later realized his resentment and unfinished goals marked his unreadiness.
Pulled back, he felt like he was falling, picking up stress and “nasty vibes.” Slammed into his body, which felt like a “stinky, putrid meat sack,” LaMar was overwhelmed by guilt and judgment. Awaking drenched in sweat, he gasped for breath. His then-wife walked in, asking if he’d had an episode. He said, “No, I died, and I just got back.”
Afterward, LaMar struggled with depression, wondering if he wasn’t “good enough” to stay in that Heavenly place. He researched near-death experiences obsessively until realizing he wasn’t alone. With his twin, he started a podcast on human consciousness to foster connection. He now shares his story to give hope, saying it’s okay to love strangers and reminding people that they are not alone— we are all one (Beyond with Heather Tesch)
