American psychic medium Carolyn Clapper shares her near-death experience that transformed her from a skeptic into a believer.
Carolyn had always suffered migraines. One night, she thought she had another severe one, lay down, and couldn’t get back up. She became extremely sick, unable to speak beyond garbled sounds. She lived alone with her five-year-old son and had no family nearby to help her. Miraculously, a friend she had not spoken to in years suddenly texted at two in the morning, asking if she was okay. Carolyn managed to text one word: “help.”
During the time before her friend arrived, Carolyn kept slipping into a vivid recurring dream. She was eight again, home sick, and her mother, a single mom, sat by her bed telling her to press her chin to her neck, something they had called the “chin check” as kids. Carolyn saw this replay over and over. Then she heard her mom say clearly: “Carolyn sit up! Touch your chin to your neck!” She tried, but her head felt fused to her body. She began projectile vomiting. Her mother then showed her an ambulance in Carolyn’s mind and said the word “meningitis” directly into her ear. She had no idea what meningitis [brain swelling] was. She lay back down and blacked out.
Carolyn awoke after about eight hours in the emergency room, where doctors could not diagnose her condition. She was dry heaving and unable to speak coherently. Carolyn eventually mustered the word “meningitis.” A nurse, surprised, said they had not considered it. Tests confirmed she had two strains of the bacterial infection. She was put in isolation with a heart stent, her heart rate dropping to 31 beats per minute. Doctors did not think she would survive. The only relief came when her young son was allowed into the room. Whenever he was there, her heart rate jumped to 61. When he left, it dropped again. Carolyn attributes this to the power of a mother’s love, given her son’s strong dependence on her.
Carolyn felt she was slipping back and forth between worlds. Each time, she would see her mother, father, and deceased friends. Overjoyed, Carolyn felt ecstatic to reunite. They looked happy, “hanging out,” joined by about 30 strangers who seemed to wait for her arrival, as if she were being “birthed into the next world.”
Carolyn saw a committee of these strangers evaluating her, staring silently. She focused on a woman with silver hair standing at the center. Carolyn pleaded, “Please let me stay for my son.” The woman turned, spoke to another being, then looked back at Carolyn and spoke clearly without moving her lips: “Yes, if you do this work for us.” Carolyn agreed instantly, without knowing the details of the “work,” driven by her desire to return to her son.
The group moved into a huge white light that traveled from Carolyn’s feet up through her body and out her head. She felt completely healed. Doctors could not explain how her swollen brain and spine recovered. Carolyn believes her brain was rewired by the committee of beings, giving her the ability to communicate normally despite what should have been permanent damage.
After leaving the hospital, Carolyn could see spirits and relay messages to the living that were repeatedly confirmed. She went to doctors to check her sanity, but instead ended up giving each of them accurate readings about their deceased loved ones, including: + At a cancer specialist, the doctor’s loved ones came through to Carolyn, and she relayed messages. The doctor confirmed the information was true. + Carolyn went to a psychologist to check if she might be mentally ill. She ended up giving him a psychic reading. + Carolyn went to her family practitioner, who asked, “Well, what do you see?” She said, “I see your dad in India, and you didn’t make it to his funeral. He wants to tell you that you need to forgive yourself because you’re busy, and he liked the blanket that you sent him.”
Every doctor gave her a clean bill of health, affirming no mental or physical issues.
Formerly a religious skeptic, Carolyn has come to accept that love, energy, spirit, and science are all real — all part of God’s Divine Plan. She believes everything happens for a reason, to teach us important lessons for the soul.
