A picture is worth a thousand words, but a beautiful garden is priceless. Here is a gardening tip for you. Peat moss improves soil texture and moisture, making it helpful for acid-loving crops like tomatoes, peppers, beans, and broccoli. However, many vegetables such as asparagus, beets, cabbage, carrots, lettuce, and onions prefer neutral or alkaline soil and don’t grow well with peat moss. Another concern is that peat moss is not a sustainable option because it is taken from irreplaceable areas. Greener choices like compost, bark mulch, and coco coir support healthy plant growth without harming the environment. Coco coir, made from coconut husks, is especially versatile. It retains water, allows air flow to roots, and works well for seed starting, container gardening, or blending with garden soil to boost its structure.
