In Part 1 of 2 of Zuki Walter’s near-death experience, Zuki shares how she was strangled during a sexual assault and, in the midst of dying, encountered an afterlife she describes as pure love.

Zuki was 19 years old and had just moved out of her parents’ home in Austin, Texas. After being an ambitious high school student, she struggled with the pressures of adult life and fell into heavy drinking while searching for love and connection. On New Year’s Eve 2012, Zuki celebrated without parental supervision for the first time. She and her roommates threw a party at their apartment complex, where a girl she didn’t know made an eerie prediction.

I do remember one girl, I didn’t know her. She kind of had a premonition, and she says, “I see yellow tape all over this apartment complex.” Me kind of believing in that but kind of being skeptical, I was like, “What are you talking about? Drink this shot, just forget about it.” And we kind of just continued on with the night.

And the next thing you know, I woke up dying. And when I woke up dying, well, my body knew that if I didn’t breathe, I was going to die. I needed to breathe, or else it would be all over. And when I was processing that, my mind was very calm. It was like I was witnessing and observing the whole experience. And as I was shifting my perspective, I saw a silhouette of a man with black flames coming off of him. And it was choking me to death. It was strangling me. And inside of that black silhouette, I saw a dim light inside of it. And I saw the person’s soul screaming. I can see that it was going through a lot of pain and suffering. And while this was all happening, like I said, I was very, very calm. But when I shift my perspective from that silhouette to, for example, my feet, I can see my legs kicking for its life. And I suppose, in perspective, there was a disagreement on what my mind and spirit was going through versus my body. My body was struggling for its life, and everything else was calm. I wasn’t scared. I just felt very much at peace, but also understanding the consequences if I didn’t do something. I couldn’t do anything because this person had so much strength, and I was also being sexually assaulted at the same time. But despite all that, I was in a lot of peace.

That calm state shifted into something she says felt like direct communication. Then I heard this voice. Well, it was more telepathic. It was kind of like the voice, or the telepathy, was a frequency that went into my bones and my DNA, or just into my whole being, and those frequencies translated into words, saying, “Stay calm, trust me, and let’s go on an adventure.” And I understood the message very clearly. It was very pure and very direct. And so I surrendered. That’s when I had my near-death experience. I kind of went through like a tunnel of Light. It was very quick. And I remember I was with an entity, maybe an angel. I’m not too sure because I was having so much fun in the afterlife. And it was just so beautiful. All the colors of the world or of the Universe, just everywhere. And it was just magical. I couldn’t believe it. I was so happy. There was just so much love, hope, grace, and forgiveness. And I remember, at the one point in the afterlife, I was just screaming, “Love is so dope!” And it felt like an eternity being there, but in our time, it’s probably like a second.

But when she came back, reality hit immediately. And I remember waking up jolting, and I was kind of disoriented, having a difficult time integrating back into what I had experienced.
